The Speedy Chick chain of fried chicken and fish restaurants was once bigger than it is today.

People in South Bend, Indiana speak wistfully about the Speedy Chick that used to operate there at the corner of Lincolnway and Lasalle. So where can you still find a Speedy Chick today?

We know of two locations in south-central Michigan, one in Battle Creek and the other nearby in Marshall.

These Yelp reviewers had plenty to rave about:

Do it. Get off the highway, Chicago/Detroit traveler. It's a shack with one picnic table outside but it's great. We sat outside in 30 degrees to eat and it was worth it.

Good food, good value, good service, mom and pop, some local history. Don't pass it up.

Fried Chicken to die for! Definitely drive out of your way on a Chicago-Detroit run, only 3 miles off the interstate and well worth it! Had the chicken noodle soup that was homemade and the chicken and dumplings are homemade too. Comfort for a weary traveler. If you like smelt, you will LOVE theirs, best I ever had! Mashed potatoes were so so and the coleslaw was refreshingly good too, biscuits were a nice touch with honey
