5 Kalamazoo Area Schools Share in 25M for Security Upgrades
Lost in a news cycle and the country's attention span that changes daily is the need for better security in our schools. Since the shooting in Parkland, FL, that raised the level of demand for answers to this continuing problem, very little has been done to satisfy what was so urgently needed. In the absence of a national referendum, schools and school systems have had to develop protocol mostly on there own with little or no additional funds.
Now, according to clickondetroit.com, several Michigan schools have been selected to receive a share of 25 million dollars to use for security upgrades. The state actually received 407 applications requesting a total of 69 million dollars but only the 25 million was available. The money will be split among 114 school districts, 42 private schools, 22 charter schools and 10 regional districts. Here's a list of schools in our area and how much they'll get:
Kalamazoo Christian School Association- $41,110
St. Monica Catholic School- $19,565
Vicksburg Community Schools- $72,450
Battle Creek Public Schools- $560,150
Greta Berman Arbetter Kzoo School- $25,000
