The city of Battle Creek will be seeking a new Fire Chief as current chief Brian Sturdivant is leaving to take on the same role in Lansing. The announcement was made Monday, April 4 by Lansing Mayor Andy Schor.

“I am excited and honored to be selected to serve as Lansing`s next Fire Chief. I look forward to working with the great men and women of the Lansing Fire Department, city leaders, and community members to ensure the Lansing Fire Department is a leader in providing EMS, fire services and training throughout Michigan.” - Chief Sturdivant

Sturdivant will take over duties as Lansing Fire Chief on May 2. He has been the Fire Chief in Battle Creek since September 2018, but his career spans over 30 years in several states.

 

“We had two great finalists for this position, but Chief Sturdivant stood out because of his leadership and analytical skills in leading large, diverse departments. I`m excited for him to get here and get started” - Lansing Mayor Andy Schor

Chief Sturdivant also has served in California, Virginia, Arizona and Georgia in various positions during his career. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a master's degree in homeland defense and security. He also earned a Certified Public Manager designation from Arizona State University.

The city of Battle Creek has not announced who may take over that role or any candidates for the job at this time. It is expected more information will be released in the coming days and weeks.
