Meijer Gardens has just released their Summer 2017 concert schedule and, as always, there are more shows than I have money to attend. These are the 7 shows I would spend money on for a ticket.

Seeing all 30 shows over the Summer at Meijer Gardens would cost you over $1,700 even at the members-only money saving, pre-sale price. As much as I'd like to, I can't afford all of those shows. Here are the 7 shows that I would spend money on- the bands that are worth it to see live this Summer.

St. Paul & the Broken Bones

These guys are the best thing to come out of Alabama since Jason Isbell. A throwback to the Stax sound of the 60s, the powerful horns and unbelievable power of Paul Janeway's voice are sure to electrify the crowd on June 9.

    Brian Setzer

Ever since the Stray Cats brought the rockabilly sound into the 80s, Brian Setzer has been a champion of the genre. Reunited with drummer Slim Jim Phantrom, Brian Setzer's Rockabilly Riot! brings a "riot squad" with two drummers, two stand-up bass players, boogie woogie piano and "a guy named Setzer." It's the most, daddio.

    Boz Skaggs

The lowdown on Boz: he was the singer on the first 2 Steve Miller Band records before striking out on his own. You know "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle" from K102.5, but if you don't know Silk Degrees don't tell anyone- just go listen to it right now. I've got to think this music is going to sound amazing on a June night under the stars.

    Huey Lewis & the News

Nineteen Top 10 singles have earned this band a perpetual spot on the Summer tour circuit. The core of the News is the same as when they came to prominence in the 80s with 4 original members and 3 more have been with the band since the mid 90s. Bring the beach balls for this one and plan on a party!

    Elvis Costello

His 20-something catalog of albums is ambitious or uneven; I've listened to them all but I wouldn't say I loved them all. I'd like to see Elvis live just to cross another big name off my concert bucket list- there aren't many left.

    Amos Lee

I can't tell you the first Amos Lee song I heard but I can tell you I was captivated. I've seen him play live twice and would love to gently sway back and forth on a blanket under the stars and be swept away once again.

    The Beach Boys

It's Summer. It's outside. It's the Beach Boys! You'll hear Mike Love and friends sing "Fun, Fun, Fun," "I Get Around," "California Girls," "Surfin' USA" and many, many more.
