It’s the 1980s All Over Again at the Movies This Summer
If you're looking for a silver lining among the COVID-19 shutdowns, look to the silver screen. Eighties movies rule at the box office at the Summer of drive-ins.
With Hollywood shut down by the pandemic, there are no new movies to watch. There's nowhere to see them as most theaters across the country are still dark. The drive-in theater is the only beacon of hope for movie fans and the spotlight seems to be on the 1980s this Summer.
Some movie critics say the Reagan era was not the best if the measuring stick is quality cinema. If you grew up in the '80s, I'd bet you disagree. Star Wars may have started in 1977, but we got he best films of the franchise with Empire and Jedi. Sure, CGI has come a long way since Indy was almost flattened by a boulder, but by the standards of the day, those were exciting adventure movies. How many movie franchises that started in the '80s are still being milked for sequels or remakes today?
Awesome movies from back in the day like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Animal House, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club and The Goonies have already been shown this Summer, now it's time for Footloose, Dirty Dancing and The Karate Kid.
