The National Weather Service of Grand Rapids is offering its free annual weather spotter training course to prepare for spring storm season in west michigan.
The National Weather Service says a large portion of the lower peninsula is in the "slight risk" category for severe weather according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Michigan's Severe Weather Awareness Week will take place March 24, 2019 through the 30. A voluntary statewide tornado drill is scheduled to occur at 1 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, March 27.
