The Stray Cats Are Back to Rock this Town
Touring behind their first album in more than 25 years, the original lineup of Stray Cats will play Grand Rapids on their 2019 tour.
"Mama don't know what I got in store for you" goes the line in "Rock This Town." Brian Stezer, Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom have reunited to celebrate 40 years and 9 lives as Stray Cats. The rockabilly trip have recorded a new album and have booked a world tour.
Clawing their way back to the scene, the road trip begins June 21 in Spain, with dates in the U.K., Germany, Amsterdam, France and Switzerland before hitting the US in August. Michigan fans can do the Stray Cat strut at Meijer Gardens on August 15.
It's great to see the band that brought the rockabilly sound of the 1950s into the '80s back together in 2019, but are the new songs going to be clunkers? Not according to Brian Setzer:
You have to understand how unique the Stray Cats are. It’s me playing an old hollow body guitar, Slim Jim playing two or three drums, and Lee Rocker slapping a stand-up acoustic bass. I get to write new songs and then play them with my buddies. Somehow we created a new and exciting sound with this simple idea. And you know what? A lot of people agree!
