This Is Michigan’s Favorite 90’s Cartoon? I Don’t Think So
Growing up as a slime kid ( Yes I was slimmed at Nickelodeon Studios when I was a kid, who wants to touch me?) I was in love with cartoons. My favorites were shows like Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, Angry Beaver, and Rocko's Modern Life just to name a few. Frontierbundles.com did a blog recently to find out the most popular 90's cartoon by state, excluding adult shows like Beavis & Butthead, South Park, and Family Guy. According to their study, Recess was Michigan's favorite show. Uh, negative.
According to them this is how they conducted their research:
We used IMDb to generate a list of the top 25 most popular and highest rated cartoons that were released in the United States during the ‘90s. Since we wanted to focus on the nostalgic kids shows, we excluded any show with a rating of TV-14 or higher, which means that shows like South Park and Family Guy were excluded. From there we analyzed Google Trends data from the past year to identify the shows that stand the test of time–which shows are people still searching for after all these years? The results were indicative of each state’s favorite ‘90s cartoon.
Sorry guys, but I did some research of my own and it turns out that with over 50 comments on my Facebook post, not one mention of Recess. Here's what people in Michigan remember most:
Shawn Addison in Hazel Park- The MC Hammer Cartoon.
Cris Lemarbe in Clarkston- Dragonball Z.
Justin Baker in Sterling Heights- Gargoyles, X-Men, TaleSpin, and of course TMNT.
Isaac Curdy in Rochester Hills- Rocko's Modern Life & AHHH! Real Monsters.
Steve Vacante in Shelby Township- Beetlejuice & Rockos Modern Life
Mike Bauer in Shelby Township- Pinky & The Brain
Josh Bowman in Roseville- Captain Planet
Dustin Monroe formerly in Detroit- Darkwing Duck
Christina Gobie in Oxford- CatDog & Bobby's World
Bree Rueda in Macomb- Courage The Cowardly Dog
Ashley Hudson in Oxford- Animaniacs
Not one mention of Recess. I think it's fair to say the one most people remember is either Beavis & Butthead, Ren & Stimpy or Rocko's Modern Life. Recess isn't even on the scale. Perhaps a different method of research is needed for Michigan.
